LE BLANC DENTAL CLINIC

Implants for Systemic Diseases

This implant treatment method is specifically designed for patients with
systemic diseases who are at greater risk of infection, bleeding, and other complications compared to the general population.

It offers a tailored treatment approach for individuals with conditions such as diabetes,
hypertension, and osteoporosis, enabling them to receive dental care previously deemed unsuitable, just like anyone else.

  • Hypertension

Implant surgery is possible for patients with systolic blood pressure between 140-179 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure between 90-190 mmHg. For systolic blood pressure of 180 mmHg or higher and diastolic blood pressure of 110 mmHg or higher, consultation and treatment by an internist are required before surgery. Medications such as aspirin, heparin, coumarin, and warfarin, which thin the blood, must be discontinued five days before the procedure, with proper consultation to adjust the medication regimen beforehand.

  • Diabetes

While healthy individuals have fasting blood sugar levels below 100 mg/dl, diabetic patients show 126 mg/dl levels when fasting and approximately 200 mg/dl two hours after eating. Implant surgery is possible if blood sugar levels can be controlled with medication and there are no severe complications.

  • Osteoporosis

Patients taking bisphosphonates must consult before implant surgery. In cases of low bone density in the gums supporting the implant, artificial bone may be used to supplement before proceeding with the implant surgery.

  • Cardiovascular Diseases

Patients must wait approximately six months after myocardial infarction surgery before undergoing implant surgery. If undergoing implant surgery post-myocardial infarction, antibiotics must be taken one hour before the procedure. If taking anticoagulants, these may need to be discontinued five days before the procedure, depending on the case.
